Frisch’s Big Boy Casserole Recipe
This copycat of the iconic sandwich from Frisch’s Big Boy Restaurant but without the sesame seed bun.
Think Big Mac but with a twist. Flaky and tender crescent roll crust, lean meat, tangy sauce, tart pickles, and topped with tons of cheese. But the twist comes in the special sauce.
It’s Frisch’s tartar sauce! It may sound weird but give it a try. You won’t be sorry.

Ingredients Needed
Crescent roll dough – Use the dough sheets for easier prep or substitute individual crescent rolls.
Ground beef – Lean ground beef or substitute ground turkey.
Tartar sauce – Use your favorite tartar sauce brand.
Pickles – I prefer dill pickles for this recipe.
Cheese – Shredded cheddar cheese. Substitute American cheese

How to make Big Boy Casserole
- Preheat oven to 375F. Spray a 9×13 dish with cooking spray. Spread the crescent roll dough out.
- Cook the crescent roll dough for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- Pour entire jar of tartar sauce over dough and spread out.
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Remove from heat and drain.

- Spread cooked/drained ground beef over cooked dough.
- Top with pickle slices and shredded lettuce.
- Spread cheese over the top and bake for 5-7 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- Remove and serve your Big Boy Casserole!
For the full recipe and detailed baking instructions, please see the recipe card at the end of this post.

How long does it last?
Store any leftover Big Boy Casserole in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Can I freeze it?
You can! I recommend leaving off the lettuce if freezing and adding it when reheating.

Best Casserole Tips
- Substitute pie crust for the crescent dough in a pinch.
- If you only have dill pickle relish, it will work just fine. Be sure to drain well first.
- If you don’t like tartar sauce, substitute thousand island dressing or big mac sauce.
