Beanie Weenie Casserole transforms the timeless classic comfort food into a hearty casserole. Tender hot dogs mixed with smoky beans and topped with a crispy tater tot topping makes for a budget friendly dish the whole family will love.

Have you heard of Beanie Weenies? They bring me back to my childhood in so many ways, but in this instance “beanie weenie” refers to a can of baked beans with sliced hot dogs in it.
The term “beanie weenie” is simply the trademarked name Van Camps uses for its particular brand. So, if you can’t find Beanie Weenies on the shelf at your local grocer, then a can of baked beans with hot dogs works too.
Or even getting hot dogs and baked beans in separate packaging puts it into play as well.

What side dishes go with Beanie Weenies?
If you are serving beanie weenie casserole as a main courses, then you might need some ideas for sides.
In this case, I recommend side dishes on the lighter side, since the casserole itself is quite filling.
A great side dish for this meal is a crunchy and cool coleslaw, or green salad. Want more vegetables? Try it with some roasted broccoli or green beans.
Leftovers
Store any leftover casserole you have in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the oven or in a large nonstick skillet until heated through.

Can you freeze it?
Make this ahead of time and freeze for later. If wrapped tightly, you can freeze it for up to 3 months.
Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in the oven at 350F until heated through.
What is a Beanie Weenie?
As a canned food, the classic franks and beans combination goes way back to the Civil War when it was used as a ration.
Van Camps didn’t necessarily invent franks and beans, but they sure made it popular.

Best Casserole Tips
- If you don’t happen to have tater tots you can use frozen shredded potatoes.
- Want to have a cornbread topping? Make the corn bread mix according to package directions and pour over the top. Bake as usual.
- Try different hot dogs or sausages. Be sure to cut into bite size pieces.
- If you like a little sweetness in it, try a tablespoon of maple syrup or light-brown sugar.
- Want it spicier? Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, extra dry mustard, or chili powder.
- Check your cheese topping to make sure it is melted and a little browned but don’t let it burn!
