Ingredients Needed
- Frozen crinkle-cut french fries – If you can’t find crinkle-cut, any bag frozen french fries will do.
- Ground beef – Try to use lean ground beef if possible, but any ground beef can work.
- Steak seasoning – If there is no steak seasoning at the store, you can make your own using a few simple ingredients, like garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Cream of mushroom soup – Swap the can of cream of mushroom soup for sour cream or any other cream based soup of your choice.

Serving Suggestions
I personally suggest pairing it with roasted Brussel sprouts or a refreshing side salad, like a Caesar or a classic house salad.
If you’re looking for something a bit more filling, green beans or collard greens also make fantastic side dishes.
How long does it last?
Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or in a 350F oven until warmed through.
Place under the broiler for a minute or two for crispy fries.
Can I use a different cheese?
I personally like the flavor that sharp cheddar cheese brings to this recipe, but you can use any cheese that you would typically order on your hamburger.
To mix it up, try a Mexican three cheese blend with pepper jack or combine your sharp cheddar with a little bit of blue cheese for an interesting twist on this fries casserole.

Tips for the Best Casserole
- For a salty topping, try covering your casserole with bacon bits mixed with cheese and green onions.
- If you want a strong cheese flavor, you can use condensed cream of cheddar cheese soup rather than cream of mushroom.
- When reheating this recipe after freezing it, make sure to cover the casserole with some aluminum foil so that your fries don’t cook too quickly. The bottom layer of meat usually takes longer to heat up, and the foil on top helps distribute the heat more evenly.
- To add a unique flavor, switch out ground beef for taco meat and choose a Mexican blend cheese, adding refried beans, nacho cheese sauce, or pico de gallo.
