Featuring fresh green beans, crispy bacon strips, and a brown sugar glaze, this Green Bean Bundle Casserole is take on a traditional green bean casserole.
2canscans french style green beans (28 ounces)drained and rinsed
12ouncesbaconcut into bite-sized pieces
5tablespoonsbutter
¾cuplight brown sugar
1teaspoongarlic powder
1teaspoononion powder
½teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
Spread the green beans in an even layer in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Top with bite-sized pieces of bacon.
In the microwave (or on the stove top) melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and spices and stir to combine. Be sure the majority of the brown sugar is dissolved.
Pour the butter/sugar over the green beans and bacon, trying to get as even as possible.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
Remove from the oven. Uncover and drain the majority of the liquid.
Return to the oven, leaving uncovered, and bake for another 10-15 minutes or until the bacon is cooked and crispy.
Remove and serve!
Notes
Watch the casserole to see if it bubbles over, you might need to use a deeper dish or put something under it to keep the oven clean.
I recommend choosing frozen cut green beans for this recipe, rather than fresh. They stay bright green and cook well.
Depending on your oven, start checking the casserole at 30 minutes.
If the bacon doesn’t get as crispy as you would like, you can try partially cooking the bacon pieces before adding them to the top of the casserole.
